Meeting Dedicated to the Development of the Study on Security Challenges Generated by the Transnistrian Conflict

The Institute for Democracy and Development (I4DD) held a working meeting with members of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), Alexandru Postica and Maria Frunze, as part of the development of the study “Needs, Perceptions and Solutions of Law Enforcement and Judicial Sector Actors in Relation to Security Challenges Generated by the Transnistrian Conflict”.

The discussions were attended by Cristina Lesnic, Director of I4DD, and Marian Gherman, Associate Expert within the project. The I4DD team presented the study’s objectives, methodology, and overall structure, with particular emphasis on the component dedicated to the judicial system.

The research aims to identify the security challenges and risks faced by justice sector professionals, the level of institutional preparedness, and the aspects related to inter-institutional coordination in the context of the Transnistrian conflict.

CSM representatives highlighted the importance of safeguarding the independence of the judiciary and respecting the legal mandates of the institutions involved. The parties also discussed avenues for cooperation and ways to capitalize on the study’s findings in order to formulate relevant legal and institutional recommendations that strengthen the resilience of the judicial system.

I4DD values the constructive dialogue with the Superior Council of Magistracy and appreciates its contribution to the process of institutional analysis and reflection. The organization reaffirms its commitment to supporting national efforts to enhance the justice sector’s capacity to respond to security challenges generated by the Transnistrian conflict through applied research and expert engagement.

This study is being conducted within the project “Growing a Safer Moldova”, under the BREN II program, with the support of IWPR and the United Kingdom.
