Training on Peace Talks: Women and Men in Peace Negotiations and Mediation

On November 22, 2024, the A.O Institute for Democracy and Development organized a training activity for 15 leaders from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and the Customs Service on peace negotiation and mediation.

The event was opened by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the management of AO I4DD, OSCE in the Republic of Moldova, UN Women, DCAF Chisinau Office and representatives of the Swedish Embassy in the Republic of Moldova.

Of the 18 countries participating in the UN program in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region, 15 have adopted National Action Plans (NAPs) on the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. NAPs serve as a bridge for women's collective action and advocacy.

Heads of Police Inspectorates, Heads of Directorates and Heads of Sections from law enforcement agencies gained new knowledge and skills in understanding conflict, mediation and negotiation processes, human rights and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda objective in negotiations of peace and mediation, gathering data, facts and supporting evidence, psychological profiles during negotiation and mediation, and emotion management techniques.

The participants took part in the activities of practical simulation of negotiation and mediation, assuming case and role scenarios. The development of a clear negotiation strategy (non-negotiable priorities, outcome expectations, potential objections or counter-arguments, counter-offers, roles and responsibilities, diplomacy, concessions, alternative solutions, communication) were topics addressed during the discussions.

This activity is organized in the spirit of the implementation of UN Resolution 1325 and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda for the years 2023-2027 (in particular activity 1.14 of the NAP).
